Winter arrived in Pinedale last week just in time for the kickoff to the
2016-2017 WHSAA Nordic Ski season. Conditions at the White Pine Nordic Ski
Area were excellent for racing this early in the season and over 150 skiers
were able to enjoy 2 days of fantastic skiing.
The Jackson Hole High School team literally had the best time in the team
competition taking first place for both boys and girls. The boys team from
Laramie took second place followed closely by the Natrona boys team. The
Lander boys took fourth place, Kelly Walsh boys came in fifth followed by
the Pinedale and Cody teams.
The Lander girls team took second place followed very closely by the
Natrona and Kelly Walsh girls squads. The Laramie girls team took fifth,
followed by the Pinedale and Cody girls.
Individual results on Friday were highlighted by strong performances by
Liam McInroy from Laramie who took first place in the boys varsity
competition with a time of 18:08.5 followed by Adam Pickett of Natrona and
Noah Gans from the Lander Tigers.
Anna Gibson of Jackson finished far ahead of the field on Friday in a
scorching time of 20:07.7 followed by Jackson Hole High School teammates
Annabel Hagen and Abby Brazil.
Saturday’s top female finishers were the same as Friday with Gibson
finishing in 19:10.7, Hagen in 19:33.4 followed by Brazil at 20:35.4.
The Saturday boys top finishers were Liam McInroy from Laramie, Max
Wilbrecht from Jackson and in third place Adam Pickett. McInroy improved
his time on Saturday to 17:05.3 while Wilbrecht was close behind at 17:15.4
The WHSAA Nordic teams will travel to Jackson next weekend for two days of
skiing at the Trail Creek Nordic Center near Wilson, WY. The teams will
take a short Holiday break and pick things up in 2017 with races in Lander,
WY on the weekend of January 6 and 7. Complete results for all races are
