Race Entries:
Please look for an email directly from race timer Matt Herr. If you don’t receive one, please email him directly at matt.herr@gmail.com
Teams will have google spreadsheets to enter multiple athletes. There will be separate spreadsheets for the NRL athletes and the highschool athletes.
Additionally (preferred), athletes may register for the NRL on the United States Ski & Snowboard using event code 35182.

There is no penalty for scratches. No additions will be accepted on race day, so please include ALL of your skiers when you email your race orders.

Payment:
All racers registering for the NRL will need to register and pay online through the USSS website -OR- if registering as a team through Matt on google drive, please bring a check to the venue and hand it to the designated volunteer in order to receive your race bibs. Please write one check for both days of racing. Checks should be made out to High Plains Nordic Ski Association (HPNSA).
Timing:
The Lander Timing Crew will use the Summit Timing System created by Ernie Page during the races. Digital wireless timers and transceivers are used, along with 2 bib recorders, 1 bib caller, 1 bib entry person, 1 bib entry person on transceiver at the start, 1 starter, and 2 people lining up the skiers. There are 7 people at the finish and 3 at the start. Two battery backup systems are also used. There are multiple, portable generators that will provide power. A wand start will be used for both races.
Race Order:
The NRL races will be seeded using a B,A,C order based on updated NRL points list on Jan 9 or shortly thereafter which will be valid starting on Jan 12. The race jury will consider weather forecasts and course conditions to determine if changing the order the A,B,C would be a preferred seed order
The Varsity Races will be seeded by coach ranking and Team Draw which will be completed by the Chief of Comp prior to the start lists being generated.
Results & Awards:
Unofficial results will be posted as soon as possible. Thirty minutes after unofficial results are posted, official results will be posted. Please do not disturb the timers or people in the timing tent for any reason.
Awards will be given to the top ten in each gender using the combined NRL and High School results. All State Points will also be awarded using these combined results.
For Middle School categories, the top five racers per grade per gender will be given awards.
There will be no awards given for the open categories.

Protests:
Protests must be made in writing within 30 minutes of the posting of the unofficial results. Protests are to be reported to the Chief of Competition who will notify the jury, which will adjudicate all protests. The Jury for the NRL will consist of the TD, Assistant TD and the COC. The jury for the WHSAA will consist of the Chief of Competition and three uninvolved high school coaches as per the coaches handbook (7.10.33). The Jury will meet near the timing shed, or inside the timing shed depending on what is going on with timing and the nature of the protest.
Race Warnings:
Racers must ski the course in the direction of the race. Anyone skiing the course backwards will be disqualified.
If a skier is late for their start, he/she will be started at the end of the race. Racers may be penalized.
If athletes are unable to complete the course, please take the athletes race bib off or turn inside out, and continue towards the stadium in the direction of the race. If assistance is needed, athletes should communicate with a course marshall who can radio for help.
We will have course marshalls at key locations around the classic course, so make sure that your athletes understand correct classic technique. The Race Jury will consider disqualification/warning as appropriate.
Late Starts:
If an athlete misses their assigned start time, they will be allowed to start as the starter officials allow or at the end of the race. We will do our best to ensure that all athletes have a fair opportunity to race. Late starters should communicate with starting crews and will be held to the side of the start lane in a designated location.
Location & Directions:
Beaver Creek Nordic Ski Area – Located south on Wyoming Highway 28 at milepost 51.5, where the highway crosses Beaver Creek. An experienced parking crew will direct buses for parking. Beaver Creek is a remote location with no shelter available to the public so be sure to dress/bring appropriate clothing! Please consider carpooling as there is limited parking available at the venue.
Parking:
ALL parking for the teams, spectators, and officials will be in the lot north of the highway at Beaver Creek. Buses are urged to turn on flashing lights as they come down the hill to the parking lot to increase other driver’s awareness to slow down also. An experienced parking crew will direct you to park.
Gear Shuttle to the Stadium:
If you have team gear that needs to be shuttled, please check in with the parking crew in the main parking lot. Parking crew will coordinate with snowmachine shuttles via radio and provide further instruction.
Beaver Creek Trail Access:
Please DO NOT CROSS THE HIGHWAY, but use the trail that leads under the bridge. Once you reach the groomed trails, you can leave ski bags just off the trail and continue to the start area on skis or walk on the side of the Lower Limestone Trail. Follow the signs for about 1 km to reach the stadium area. There will be snowmachine shuttles available for team gear.
Wax Tents:
An area will be available for you to set up your wax tent in the stadium at Beaver Creek. Tents are not provided. Please see the stadium map for details.

All skiers at all High Plains JNQ races agree to use a designated glide wax for those races. The race organizers will announce the glide wax to be used for all competitors by noon 3 days prior to the first race. The wax choices for the 2022/2023 season are:
Cold conditions – Swix High Speed 5 solid
Medium conditions – Swix High Speed 6 solid
Warm conditions- Swix High Speed 8 Solid
Non-fluorinated kick waxes will be required for JNQ/NRL races in the HP division. List of Fluoro-Free Kick Wax
It is up to all of us: coaches, parents, and athletes to control adherence to the waxing protocol
All events hosted by other USSS Divisions will abide by the hosting division’s wax protocol. At non-HP FIS events, any fluorinated waxes may be used unless the host/division say otherwise. In any HP qualifier hosted by another division athletes will follow that division’s wax policy and will be subject to testing and disciplinary actions. All HP in-division qualifiers will follow the honor system.
Bathrooms:
There will be two porta-potties in the parking lot and four porta-potties near the stadium.
Refreshments & Hospitality:
Race organizers will have water and hot drinks available for racers, but racers are advised to BRING YOUR OWN SNACKS!
Racers, spectators and volunteers are advised to wear/ bring appropriate clothing. Beaver Creek is a remote location with no shelter available to the public.
Medical:
A Basic Life Support EMT Medical team will be on site for both race days able to assess, stabilize and transport a patient to the highway. We will have a snow machine/ ATV located in the stadium with easy trail access if an athlete requires a shuttle from locations along the course. The Fremont County ambulance has been notified of the race by medical staff.
Weather:
The weather at Beaver Creek may be different from Lander. The closest weather sensors and webcam can be found here. The following website may provide helpful information: www.landernordic.org If there is a delay due to road conditions or cold weather, coaches will be contacted by cell phones to update them on the plans for the races.
Cell Service:
Cell phone service is unreliable at the Beaver Creek venue.
There are NO DOGS allowed at the Beaver Creek venue. Sorry, PLEASE leave your dogs at home!

NOON: Female U16-U20 USSA NRL

Saturday January 14th 5km, 4km, 1km Classic Race

Beaver Creek Ski Trails
Description of Race:
USSA NRL and High School athletes will race 5km. There will be an open category 4km race, middle school boys and girls 4km races and an open category 1km race. All races will be classic, 15 second interval start.
The course will be groomed single track “best line” with double tracks where appropriate as snowpack and terrain allows. On downhill sections, the tracks will be to the side, or lifted, for safety.
Athletes should be prepared to navigate technique and turning zones which will be marked with v-boards and signage. These zones will be determined by the Chief of Comp, TD, Assistant TD and Chief of Course prior to the beginning of course inspection and communicated with coaches and athletes accordingly.
