Nordic State Championships – Friday Results

Hey Folks

First day of skiing is complete! Please find the results from the Freestyle (skate) competition which was held this morning. The Classic Races will begin at 9:30am tomorrow morning at Beaver Creek starting with the Women’s Varsity followed by the Men’s Varsity shortly thereafter. Congratulations to all the skiers, coaches, parents and volunteers!

State meet this weekend!

Hi skiers and parents –

Where did the season go? It’s time for the State meet already, which we are of course hosting this year! Thank you to those who have generously donated your time to volunteer in various capacities this weekend.

Races begin at 9:30am both days. The boys will start first Friday; girls will start first Saturday. Friday will be a 5k classic race, and Saturday will be a 10k skate race. There will be a banquet for all teams in the LVHS Commons beginning at 6pm on Friday. Cost is $10/plate. The school will pay for our athletes; parents and others may pay at the door.

The bus will leave Friday morning from the Field House at 7:00am. We will likely be heading back to town by noon or so, so skiers will have several free hours before the banquet. Skiers, please use this time well: go home, eat a healthy snack, shower, take a nap, relax, etc. If any of you get the urge to go for a 10 mile run or go to jazzercise class, etc, please try to resist the temptation, just for today! Then please plan to join us at 6pm for the banquet.

Saturday the bus will leave at 7:30am. We’ll do all-state and team awards at Beaver Creek following the races.

Our end-of-the-year team potluck dinner will be Monday, Feb. 25th in the high school Commons at 5:30pm. (I believe Pat sent out an email with the details, but let me know if anyone did not get the email and we’ll be sure to forward it to you.)

Equipment return: I’ll post a sign-up sheet in the wax room tomorrow so skiers can sign up for a time slot to hand in their uniforms, warm-ups and rental equipment next week. I’ll be at the wax room on Monday the 25th from 3:30 to 4:30 and Tuesday the 26th from 3:30 until ??. Please make sure all uniforms/warm-ups are washed before you hand them in. Thanks!

Ok, I think that’s it. Have a great week everyone,

Maggie

Results from Jackson Classic Races today

Great races in Jackson today for the Nordic Classic races. The Varsity Boys and Girls both skied a terrific 10K course and the JV and Junior High/Middle School teams skied a 4K race. Perfect conditions in nearly every way and a fantastic volunteer crew from Jackson. Great job everyone! Results are available below – team standings available below only reflect the classic races from Friday races.

Tomorrow’s races are “Walt Berling Sprints” and the famed competitor Walt Berling of the same name will be organizing and managing the festivities. The racers are looking forward to another awesome day at Trail Creek Nordic Center outside Wilson, WY again tomorrow.

Jackson

Hi everyone –

First of all, a big “thank you” to all the parents who came to feed us and cheer us on in Soldier Hollow, as well as those who sent along yummy snacks for the bus ride! We are very fortunate to have such supportive parents.

Also, I’ve attached the results from the races so you can peruse them at your leisure.

As you know, we’re racing again this weekend in Jackson. Friday will be a 10k mass start classic race, and Saturday we’ll be doing freestyle sprints. We’ll be leaving early Friday morning to make the 10:30 race start. The bus will pull out at 5:30am sharp. The races will start at 10:30 on Friday, and 9am Saturday.

I am also attaching the info packet for the races in Jackson, which has more detailed information about race times, distances, etc. Please take careful note of the Driving and Parking section – there are instructions on where to park to catch a shuttle bus up to the races (a little different than in years past). Parents are asked not to park at the venue as parking space is extremely limited.

Please stay tuned for details about a possible team dinner Thursday after waxing, as well!

Thanks,

Maggie

Soldier Hollow

Hi skiers/parents –

As you know, we’ll be traveling to Soldier Hollow, UT this weekend to race. The bus will depart at 11am on Thursday, Jan 31 from the field house parking lot. We’ll arrive around 4pm, in time for the coaches’ meeting and to wax our skis at the motel that evening.

Freestyle sprint races will start Friday at 9am, with older kids racing first and the younger age groups following. The Saturday classic distance races will begin at 9am also, with younger skiers racing first followed by older age groups.

Our meals are of course being provided and prepared by Pat McGavran and her crew of parent volunteers – a huge Thank You to all of them for once again volunteering to feed us (and of course cheer us on at the races)! (Pat’s email, in case you have questions, or would like to volunteer your time or a financial contribution, is pmcgavran@q.com)

We’ll leave Saturday by 2pm, stopping somewhere along the way to grab some food, and plan to be home around 8pm(ish).

Keep up the snow dances…it’s working!
